Lewis RIGGS pleads guilty to burglary (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in September 1906 Lewis Riggs pled guilty to the crime of burglary (case #4563). Because he was only 14 years old, his sentence was suspended.

Mattie PERSLEY granted divorce (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in October 1906 Mattie Persley was granted a divorce from Benjamin Persley (case #7769). Benjamin had been served with the divorce papers in Floyd County, Indiana but failed to appear in court. Mattie was also given custody of their children: George Persley (age 5), Thomas Persley (age 3) and Theodore Persley (age 1).

James CLARK sworn in as Hendricks County Circuit Judge (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in November 1906 James L. Clark was sworn in as Judge of the Hendricks County Circuit Court for a 6-year term, beginning November 17, 1906.

Florence LOGSTON granted divorce (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in September 1906 Florence Logston was granted a divorce from William Logston (case #7752). Florence was also given $500 in alimony and custody of their daughter Edna Logston, with William ordered to pay $3 a week in child support.

Walter SHELLEY and Jacob CAYLOR found guilty of burglary (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in December 1906 Walter Shelley (age 23) and Jacob Caylor were found guilty of the crime of burglary (case #4620). Shelley was sentenced to the Indiana State Reformatory at Jeffersonville for a term of 2 to 14 years; because Caylor was under 21, his sentence was suspended.

Mary J. WHITE granted divorce (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in June 1906 Mary J. White was granted a divorce from Glyndon M. White (case #7701). Mary J. was also given custody of their son, Charles Lotan White.

Otha HEDGE pleads guilty to wife desertion (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in October 1906 Otha Allen Hedge pled guilty to the crime of wife desertion (case #4555). He was given a $25 fine. Allen Weddle and James C. Hedge were the sureties on his bail.

Myrtle MARSHALL granted divorce (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in May 1906 Myrtle Marshall was granted a divorce from John H. Marshall (case #7692). Myrtle was also given custody of their children, Helen Marshall and Albert Marshall.

Edward VANDAGRIFF convicted of bigamy (1907)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in January 1907 Edward G. Vandagriff (age 35) pled guilty to the crime of bigamy (case #4622). He was sentenced to Indiana State Prison for a term of 2 to 5 years.

Minnie BUNTING granted divorce (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in April 1906 Minnie Bunting was granted a divorce from George W. Bunting (case #7676). Minnie was given custody of their son George Bunting (age 13) and George W. was ordered to pay $5 a week in child support.

An index to divorce cases in Hendricks County from 1906 to 1908 has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. This index was compiled from entries in the Hendricks County Circuit Court order books volumes 51 and 52 (which cover 5 March 1906 through 17 February 1908).

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of the order books for the years 1824-1909.

The Indiana Genealogical Society has added 48 more digitized files of Hendricks County probate records to their website. The newest files cover these surnames:

There are now 754 Hendricks County probate records online. These files are free to the public and are part of the society's Records Preservation Project.

This index is from the Hendricks County Assessor's plat book and includes the Congressional Township, Range and Section that the land was located in.

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of the plat books for scattered years between 1852 and 1940.

Incorporation of town of Amo legalized (1915)

In March 1915 the Indiana General Assembly passed a law (House Bill 333) legalizing the incorporation of the town of Amo in Hendricks County. The election of town officials was also rendered valid.

Hendricks County marriage applications index 1938-1939 added

An index to Hendricks County Marriage Applications Book 20 (which covers 2 September 1938 to 28 September 1939) has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. The index is in progress - so far it covers 1905 through 1939.

ABOUT THESE RECORDS: Beginning in May 1905, Indiana law required the recording of marriage applications, which included biographical details about the bride and the groom, as well as their parents. In Hendricks County, the information from these applications was kept in a separate set of books from the marriage record from May 1905 until June 1950.

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of all of the marriage application books.
