An index to divorce cases settled in Hendricks County during 1962-1963 has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. Entries were added from Hendricks County Circuit Court order book 110 (16 June 1962 - 10 July 1963).

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of the Circuit Court order books for the years 1824-1972.

Name change of William KENDALL (1964)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Order Book 111 (July 1963 - October 1964), in April 1964, William Kendall petitioned the court (case # C64-32) to change his name to William L. Thompson. The petition noted that he was born June 4, 1931 in Marion County, Indiana to Mary Martha Kendall, but that as a child he had been known as William L. Thompson. This petition was granted and his birth certificate was ordered to be changed.

An index of the landowners in Brown Township in 1915 has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. This index was compiled from the Hendricks County Assessor's collection of plat books and lists the Congressional Township, Range and Section that the land was located in.

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of the plat books for scattered years between 1852 and 1940.

Judy NEWLIN and Larry WHITE marriage annulled (1964)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Order Book 111 (July 1963 - October 1964), on August 8, 1964, Judy Carol White's petition for an annulment of her marriage to Larry Dean White (case # C64-132) was granted. The court order noted that she was only 15 years old at the time of the marriage, and thus was unable of entering into a legal contract.

NOTE: Hendricks County marriage records show that the marriage of Judy Carol Newlin and Larry Dean White occurred on 6 September 1962, where she listed her age as 19 (birthdate August 27, 1943). On 8 August 1964, she married Richard Melvin Castiglione, having gotten a waiver of the 3-day waiting period. On the 1964 marriage application, she listed her age as 17 (birthdate as August 27, 1947). She included an affidavit from her parents consenting to the marriage.

List of Cascade High School students in 1973 added

An index of the students in grades 7-12 at Cascade High School in Clayton in 1973 has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. This index was compiled from the Cascade High School 1973 yearbook, Colossus.

NOTE: Cascade High School opened in the fall of 1964 as the result of the consolidation of the high schools of Clayton, Amo and Stilesville.

Adoption of Donita Mae GOODE and DeLama Kay GOODE (1963)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Order Book 111 (July 1963 - October 1964), during the divorce case of Mary Lou Goode and William Herbert Goode (case #62-321), their children Donita Mae Goode and DeLama Kay Goode were made wards of the court. In December 1963, their half-brother Thomas Irvin Goode and his wife Gladys Mae Goode petitioned the court to adopt these children, and their petition was granted.

NOTE: In Hendricks County Circuit Court Order Book 110 (June 1962 - July 1963), the divorce petition of Mary Lou Goode was granted in November 1962. The divorce settlement lists Donita as being age 9 and DeLama as age 5, and the children were placed in the temporary custody of Doris Wiles. In April 1963, Mary Lou Goode received permission from the court to temporarily remove the children from their home in order to take them to their father Herbert's funeral service in North Salem.

Indianapolis groups sponsoring research trip to Fort Wayne

The Indiana African American Genealogy Group and the Genealogical Society of Marion County are planning a research trip from Indianapolis to the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne on Saturday, November 7, 2015. The bus will leave Indianapolis at 7:30 am and it should return to Indianapolis by 8 pm. The Genealogy Center of the Allen County Public Library is the third largest genealogy repository in the United States. The Genealogy Center has more than 350,000 printed volumes, 513,000 microfilms and microfiche.

The bus trip will cost $30 per person. Registration and payment can be made on the GSMC website (www.GenealogyIndy.org) using PayPal or by mailing a check to:

Each registration should include the passenger’s name, address, telephone (preferably cell phone) and e-mail address. Those wishing to pay by credit card may use PayPal, which is on the IAAGG website at www.iaagg.org. The registration deadline is Saturday, October 19, 2015. They will need a minimum of 25 passengers for the trip to take place. If we have fewer than 25 reservations, the bus trip will be cancelled and they will carpool instead.

Plainfield genealogy group to discuss probate records

The Family History Hounds genealogy group will meet on Thursday, November 5 from 1 to 3 pm at the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library. The meeting will be held upstairs in the library's West meeting room. Meredith Thompson will give a presentation on probate records.
