Lincoln Township 1891 Landowners Index Added

An index to landowners in Lincoln Township in 1891 has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. The index is of the Hendricks County Assessor's plat book, which was used to determine how much property tax the landowner owed each year.

Hendricks County marriage applications index 1927-1928 added

An index to Hendricks County Marriage Applications Book 13 (which covers 5 February 1927 to 3 November 1928) has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. The index is in progress - so far it covers 1905 through 1928.

ABOUT THESE RECORDS: Beginning in May 1905, Indiana law required the recording of marriage applications, which included biographical details about the bride and the groom, as well as their parents. In Hendricks County, the information from these applications was kept in a separate set of books from the marriage record from May 1905 until June 1950.

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of all of the marriage application books.

Hendricks County marriage applications index 1925-1927 added

An index to Hendricks County Marriage Applications Book 12 (which covers 27 May 1925 to 29 January 1927) has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. The index is in progress - so far it covers 1905 through 1927.

ABOUT THESE RECORDS: Beginning in May 1905, Indiana law required the recording of marriage applications, which included biographical details about the bride and the groom, as well as their parents. Indiana Legislature Validates Town of North Salem's Incorporation (1903)

According to Acts of 1903, Chapter 164 [approved March 9, 1903], the incorporation of the town of North Salem in Hendricks County is hereby legalized - all its elections, its proceedings and ordinances (including levying/collection of taxes) are hereby declared to be legal and valid.

Austin Pierson Earns A Belated $218 Salary As Middle Township Trustee (1903)

According to Acts of 1903, Chapter 28 [approved February 25, 1903], Austin Pierson is to be paid $218 by the Hendricks County Commissioners, as payment for his salary as the township trustee for Middle Township in 1882. The act says that Pierson served as Middle Township Trustee from April 1882 until April 1886, and that his annual report for 1882 mentioned a salary of $218, which the county commissioners approved, but when he turned over his township funds in 1886, he forgot to deduct the $218 from it.

Hendricks County Formed By Indiana Legislature (1824)

According to Acts of 1824, Chapter 19 [approved December 20, 1823], effective April 1, 1824, Hendricks County is formed out of part of Wabash County, with these boundaries:
  • Beginning at southeast corner of Section 20 in Township 14 North, Range 2 East
  • Then west, 20 miles to the east line of Putnam County
  • Then north 20 miles with said line, to the northwest corner of Section 18 in Township 17 North, Range 2 West
  • Then east 20 miles to the northwest corner of Marion County
  • Then south 20 miles with said line, back to the beginning.
These county commissioners are appointed:
  • William Templeton of Lawrence County
  • William McCulloch of Monroe County
  • Calvin Fletcher of Marion County
  • Abel Cole of Shelby County
  • John Smiley of Johnson County
The county commissioners are to meet at the house of the late William Ballard on the second Monday in July 1824. They will also hold a special session on the first Monday in May 1824 for the purpose of appointing a county assessor. Within 12 months after selecting a site, they will erect a building for a courthouse.
