Danville library to hold genealogy workshop

The Danville Public Library will hold a genealogy workshop, "Family History Research 104: Even More Records," on Saturday, November 16 at 10 am in the library's program room on the ground floor. The workshop is designed for beginning researchers, as well as for all those who want to brush up on their genealogy skills. Cindy Rutledge from the library's Indiana Room will discuss family histories, oral histories, hereditary societies, lineage societies and more.

Brownsburg resident James W. SNYDER dies in northern Indiana (1973)

Decatur resident is killed in mishap on Highway 33

James W. Snyder, 29, 904 West Monroe St., an employee of the Decatur Casting Co., and a member of the Green Berets during the Vietnam conflict, was killed instantly at approximately 1 am Sunday in a one vehicle accident, near Sunset Park on U.S. 33.

Snyder was returning to Decatur after driving his wife to her parent’s home in Celina, Ohio, when he evidently fell asleep, veered off the west side of the road.

He was born in Indianapolis May 1, 1944, the son of Ralph and Katherine Lumpkin-Snyder and was married to Della Schmidt of Celina, Ohio Oct. 14, 1967, who survives. The family moved here from Brownsburg, Indiana two years ago. He was a part time employee of the Crider Mobile Service.

Surviving beside his wife are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Snyder of Pittsboro, Indiana, and one son, Jimmy.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Gillig-Doan & Sefton funeral home. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 9 p.m. tonight, with Rev. Harold Leininger officiating.

The body will be taken Tuesday morning to the Danville, Ind. Episcopal Church, where a Requiem Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. John Roof at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Lizton, Ind. cemetery. Viewing will be at the church from noon until time of the service.
