Plainfield Library Adds Plainfield High School Senior Class Photos 1922-1964



Plainfield Public Library has digitized their collection of senior class photos from Plainfield High School 1922-1964 and added them to their website. These photos also help fill in the missing years in their yearbook collection.

Hendricks County Marriage Applications Index 1917-1918 Added

An index to Hendricks County Marriage Applications Book 7 (which covers 3 January 1917 to 1 August 1918) has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. The index is in progress - so far it covers 1905 through 1918.

ABOUT THESE RECORDS: Beginning in May 1905, Indiana law required the recording of marriage applications, which included biographical details about the bride and the groom, as well as their parents. In Hendricks County, the information from these applications was kept in a separate set of books from the marriage record from May 1905 until June 1950.

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of all of the marriage application books.

Town Changes Its Name to Brownsburg (1850)

Acts of 1850, Chapter 209 [approved January 16, 1850]
An act to change the name of the Town of Harrisburgh, in Hendricks County
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, That the name of the town of Harrisburgh, in Hendricks County, State of Indiana, be, and the same is hereby changed to that of Brownsburgh.
Section 2. That hereafter, said town shall be known and designated by the said name of Brownsburgh, and all conveyances of lots situate in said town heretofore made, in which the same are described as situate in the town of Brownsburgh, in said county of Hendricks, are hereby declared to be as valid and binding as if the same had been described as being situate in the town of Harrisburgh.
Section 3. That none of the rights, titles, privileges, or interests of any of the citizens of said town shall be in anywise affected by said change, but the same shall be held and enjoyed to all intents and purposes, as though said change had not been made.
Section 4. This act shall be deemed a public act, and shall be in force from and after its passage.

Town in Clay Township Changes Its Name (1850)

Section 2. That hereafter said town shall be known and designated by the said name of Springtown, and that all business for or on behalf of said town shall be done and transacted by the said name of Springtown, whether corporate or otherwise.
Section 3. That none of the rights, titles, privileges, or interests of any of the citizens of said town shall be in anywise affected by said change, but the same shall be held and enjoyed to all intents and purposes, as though said change had not been made.

Thomas BOLEN of Plainfield Dies (1935)

THOMAS BOLEN DIES
Thomas Bolen, aged 79, died from heart trouble at the County Home, Monday morning. He was a native of Indiana, but resided in Nebraska and Oklahoma several years. He made his home near Plainfield five years, coming to the Home in 1932. Surviving are his stepmother, Mrs. Eva Bolen, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Prewitt of Lexington, Okla., and Mrs. Bernice Davis of Danville, two brothers, Harlan of Los Angeles, Cal. and William of Danville. Funeral services in charge of Miss Mary Miars Harold, were held at the Friends church at 2:30, Tuesday afternoon. Burial at Plainfield.

Rebecca (KEITH) HALL of Danville Dies (1935)

REBECCA H. HALL, AGED 91, DIED HERE SUNDAY
Rebecca H. Hall, widow of Francis Hall, died Sunday, Jan. 6, at her home on West Main street. She had been confined to her home ten years. She was born near Bainbridge ninety-one years ago, a daughter of Isaac and Nancy Keith. She united with the M.E. church at New Maysville in 1865. In September, 1866, she and Mr. Hall were married and he died on their fiftieth wedding anniversary. She has been a resident of Danville since September, 1895. One son, Oren, of New Maysville, survives. Funeral services were held at her late home, yesterday morning, at 10:30, in charge of Rev. Frank McLaughen, and Rev. Hugh McGlasson, with burial in the New Maysville cemetery.

Louise SULLIVAN Files Suit For Divorce (1934)

SULLIVANS PART
Cruel and inhuman treatment is alleged by Louise Sullivan in her suit filed Saturday in the local clerk's office, for a divorce from her husband, Frank Sullivan. According to the complaint the Sullivans were married in 1929 and separated July 13 of this year. The plaintiff asks for the custody of their two children and for $3 a week for their support.

That her husband would not support her is claimed by Roberta H. Stephenson in a suit for a divorce from Robert L. Stephenson, filed last Friday in the local clerk's office. The Stephensons were married in 1931 and separated in April of this year. She asks the court to restore her maiden name, Roberta Harrison. The plaintiff lives in Plainfield.

WIFE WANTS DIVORCE
Cruel and inhuman treatment and failure to support is given as the grounds for divorce after twenty-four years of married life in a suit filed by Ethel Storms against her husband, Burton. According to the complaint the Storms were marred in 1911 and separated during March of this year. The plaintiff asks for alimony in the sum of $1,000 and $5 per week for the support of their minor child, whose custody she also seeks.

Mildred THOMPSON of Hazelwood Files For Divorce (1934)

Two weeks of wedded life were enough for Mildred Thompson, who with two other discontented wives filed suits for divorces in the local circuit court the first of this week.

Mrs. Thompson was married to Glen Thompson on May 17 and separated on May 31 of this year. In that short a time she claims the defendant proved unfaithful. She also alleges cruel and inhuman treatment. The plaintiff is a resident of Hazelwood and by occupation is a clerk.

Adeline (CRAVEN) KENNEDY Files For Divorce (1935)

That Oren L. Kennedy failed to provide for his wife, Adeline Kennedy, is charged in the divorce suit filed by the latter. They were married in 1926 and separated in January of this year. The plaintiff asks that her maiden name, Adeline Craven, be restored by the court. For the past two years the complaint states that the plaintiff has resided with her parents in Liberty Township.

Two divorce suits were filed in the local clerk's office, Saturday. Both were by the wife and cruel and inhuman treatment are given as the grounds for divorce.

Claiming that her husband, Ben H. Thomas, threatened her with weapons and choked her, Mrs. Ethel Thomas asks for an absolute divorce from her mate of twenty-five years. The complaint states that they were married in 1910 and lived together until March 2. The Thomases lived on a farm near Avon.

Lester THRELKELD of Cartersburg Files For Divorce (1934)

Lester M. Threlkeld, Cartersburg plasterer, filed suit in the local clerk's office, Tuesday, for a divorce from his wife, Vivian E. Threlkeld. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant deserted him in 1929 and asks for an absolute divorce and the custody of their minor child which is now with the mother. According to the complaint the couple was married in 1923 and lived together until 1929.

Raymond Snyder filed suit for a divorce from Dorothy Snyder, Tuesday, in the local clerk's office. The plaintiff alleges cruel and inhuman treatment for the reasons of divorce. The Snyders were married in January, 1931, and separated the first of last month. They formerly lived at Brownsburg.

Beryl STRINGER Files For Divorce (1933)

BERYL T. STRINGER FILES SECOND SUIT FOR DIVORCE
Beryl T. Stringer asks for an absolute divorce and $5,000 alimony in a second divorce suit filed in the local clerk's office this year. The second suit was filed because Mrs. Stringer had not been a resident of this county six months when the first suit was filed several months ago. The plaintiff alleges cruel and inhuman treatment. They were married in December, 1919 and separated lasts January.

The plaintiff asks for the custody of their three children and $15 per week for their support besides the $5,000 alimony. She also asks for a restraining order preventing the defendant to see her and the children and an order to allow her to secure her property at the Indianapolis apartment.

Norma Ella (BURK) ZACHARY Dies in North Salem (1942)

Mrs. Norma Ella Zachary, resident of North Salem for the past 32 years, died at her home at 1 o'clock Sun. afternoon after an illness of about 3 years. She had been bedfast for the past 6 months. Mrs. Zachary was born at Jamestown Oct 28, 1880, the daughter of James W. and Mary Jane (Goodwin) Burk. She is survived by her husband, Ott Zachary, two children, Mrs. Lillian May Ferguson and Morris Zachary, both of Indianapolis; 3 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Flora North, Ohio; Mrs. Dora Hedge, Indianapolis; Mrs. Mary Bundy, Ladoga; and one brother, Jack Burk, of New Ross. Several nieces & nephews and other relatives live in Crawfordsville. The funeral will be held at 3:30 o'clock Tues. afternoon, Aug. 4, from the Earl Cox Funeral Home, North Salem.
