Hendricks County marriage applications index 1947-1949 added
An index to Hendricks County Marriage Applications Book 27 (which covers 20 December 1947 through 5 March 1949) has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. The index is in progress - so far it covers 1905 through 1949.
ABOUT THESE RECORDS: Beginning in May 1905, Indiana law required the recording of marriage applications, which included biographical details about the bride and the groom, as well as their parents. In Hendricks County, the information from these applications was kept in a separate set of books from the marriage record from May 1905 until June 1950.

Walking tour of Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis
The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is sponsoring a guided walking tour of Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis on Thursday, June 11 at 6:30 pm. The tour will cover some of the historical people that are buried there, and will include the view of the downtown skyline as seen from James Whitcomb Riley's tomb.
The tour will cover 1 mile and last approximately 90 minutes. Bottled water, comfortable shoes and insect repellant are recommended. Pre-registration is required and is limited to those age 12 and up. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation and will meet at the cemetery (you will be given directions on where to park and meet up for the walking tour). Fred Anson WAMPLER appointed railroad policeman (1925)
As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 74 (September 1924 - October 1925), the court minutes for July 14, 1925 record that Fred Anson Wampler was commissioned by the governor for a 3-year term as a policeman for the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad. This commission was also filed in Vigo County Circuit Court in Terre Haute.

A new genealogy interest group, called Family History Hounds, has formed and will be meeting at the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library the 1st Thursday of every month from 1 pm to 3 pm. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, May 7 from 1 to 3 pm in the library's Indiana Room.
