Hendricks County estate index updated for 1985

An index of the Hendricks County estate cases that had legal notices published in Hendricks County newspapers has been updated to include notices from the Danville Gazette and The Republican for 1985. This index is in the probate records section of the Hendricks County GenWeb site.

This index now includes these Hendricks County newspapers:
  • Coatesville Herald - 1945 through 1961 (the newspaper stopped being published in 1961)
  • Danville Gazette - 1945 through 1985
  • The Republican (Danville) - 1945 through 1985
  • The Friday Caller (Plainfield) - 1945 through 1956 (the newspaper stopped being published in 1956)
  • Plainfield Messenger - 1945 through 1947
This index currently covers 1945-1985; more newspapers and more years will be added later.

This may not be a comprehensive list of all of the Hendricks County estate cases for this time period; legal notices could be filed in any newspaper in the county.

According to a legal notice, in April 1985 Elizabeth Ann Sharp filed a petition in the Hendricks County Circuit Court (case # C 4 85-136) to change the name of her minor child Duane Michael Fish to Duane Michael Sharp. The petition was scheduled to be heard in court on June 24, 1985.

The Brownsburg Branches genealogy group will meet on Tuesday, May 2 from 1 to 3 pm at the Brownsburg Public Library. The meeting will be held in Meeting Room E. Meredith Thompson from the Hendricks County GenWeb Project and the Indiana Genealogical Society will present a program on divorce records.

According to a legal notice, in November 1984 Laura Joyce Wathen filed a petition in the Hendricks County Circuit Court (case # C 11 84-328) to change the names of her minor children, Richard Melvin Castiglione, Jr. and Anthony Wayne Castiglione, to Richard Dean Wathen and Anthony Wayne Wathen, respectively. These children were from her former marriage to Richard Melvin Castiglione, which had ended in divorce on June 8, 1878 (Hendricks County Superior Court case # S 77-311). She married Thomas L. Wathen on April 4, 1981, and they had a child together, Scott Robert Wathen. The petition was scheduled to be heard in court 30 days after the publication of the notice.









Plainfield genealogy group to discuss abstracts

The Family History Hounds genealogy group will meet on Thursday, May 4 from 1 to 3 pm at the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library. The meeting will be held upstairs in the library's meeting rooms. Tina Gunter will present a program, "Abstracts: What Are They and How Do They Work?".
