According to a newspaper article, on Saturday, January 25, 1986, Plainfield's post office would move to a new location - a new 8,000 square foot building on Carr Road. It had been located on North Mill Street for 20 years before this move. Louise Gregory was the postmaster. The Carr Road facility had additional spaces for parking, more post office boxes and a vending machine in the lobby to purchase stamps.
