According to a newspaper article, on September 19, 1982, groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the new Washington Township Public Library in Avon. Jessie Thomas, librarian, and Rex McClain, member of the library board, were on hand. The new facility was to be 16,900 square feet (along with a 3,463 square foot basement, which would not be open to the public) and designed to last for 20 years of anticipated growth.
