The Indiana Genealogical Society recently added 19 Hendricks County probate packets to their website for free viewing.

The Indiana Genealogical Society's website recently added 44 digitized probate packets for Hendricks County for free viewing.

This batch of probate packets spans 1850 through 1912 (as well as one stray packet from 1923). They were digitized by volunteers at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne.

Name change of Christian Andrew CIRIACO (1981)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Order Book 126 (October 1980 - November 1981), in October 1981, Christian Andrew Ciriaco petitioned the court (case # C 8 81-356) to change his name to Christian Andrew Armstrong. The petition, which was filed by his mother on his behalf, was granted.

George ARMSTRONG Adopted by Rev. DICKERSON (1866)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 9 (August 1861 - September 1866), in March 1866 Reverend Henry L. Dickerson of Danville filed a petition to adopt George Armstrong, who was born on 5 March 1864. Armstrong's father, George Armstrong of Leesburg, Kosciusko County, Indiana, was a soldier in the 30th Indiana Infantry who had lost his wife and was not able to care for the child, and thus he had signed an indenture with Dickerson back in 1864 relinquishing the care of the infant. Dickerson had cared for the infant for 22 months and the father's whereabouts were now unknown. The court approved the petition and changed the child's name to George Dickerson.

NEWSPAPER TIDBIT: Former Danville Resident Dies in Texas (1922)

OBITUARY
Harriet Armstrong, whose body was recently brought to this county from San Antonio, Tex., was born in Somerset, Ky., July 29, 1836. She came to Indiana with her parents when but a child and Nov. 2, 1854, she and Levi Armstrong were married. Five children were born to them, Mary Armstrong Bailey, Samantha Eva Armstrong, John S., Thomas A. and William A., the latter surviving. With him Mrs. Armstrong had made her home for thirteen years.

Until she went to Texas in 1909, Mrs. Armstrong had spent practically all her life in New Winchester and Danville. She was a member of the Christian church here and of the South Side Christian church in San Antonio. She was an invalid for many years and suffered greatly at times. Yet when the end came, she went away peacefully, aged 86 years, three months and five days. Her remains were accompanied to Indiana by her granddaughter, Mrs. Eva Bailey Hughes. Another granddaughter is Mrs. Rose Bailey Lewis, of Amboy, Ind., and a great grandson is Allen Bailey Lewis, of Amboy. Mrs. Armstrong was the last member of her father’s family. She was the widow of a civil war veteran and a beautiful silk flag was placed on her casket by Danville Auxiliary, Sons of Veterans.

OBITUARY: Thomas H. Armstrong (1899)

from the Jamestown Press (Jamestown, Indiana) – issue of Friday, January 6, 1899 – page 1, columns 4-5:

Thomas H. Armstrong died at his home, one mile east of Lizton, Dec. 22. He had been complaining for several months, but was confined to his house only about two weeks. He leaves a wife and a six months’ old baby, besides mother, brothers and sisters. Thomas was born Nov. 16, 1876; married Sept. 19, 1897. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C.E. Beebee; burial in the cemetery, at the church.
