20 Hendricks County probate packets from 1844-1899 digitized

An 1867 executor's bond for the estate of Thomas Barr, issued in Hardin County, Kentucky

The Indiana Genealogical Society's website recently added 20 digitized probate packets for Hendricks County for free viewing.

This batch of probate packets spans 1844 through 1899 (as well as a couple of stray packets from 1919, 1929 and 1930). They were digitized by volunteers at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne.

Death of Donnell A. BAXTER (1974)

NORTH SALEM – Donnell A. Baxter, 71, of North Salem, who worked at Madden Furniture Co. at Indianapolis 40 years, died at 1:40 a.m. today in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He had been a patient there about 10 days. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite.

He was born at Indianapolis on Jan. 14, 1903, a son of Joseph and Mae Lewis Baxter. He attended schools at Indianapolis and was married to Zella M. Russell of Greenfield on Dec. 4, 1929. She survives. Also surviving is a brother, Glenn of Indianapolis. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Porter Funeral Home at North Salem.

Burial will be in Washington Park East at Indianapolis. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Adoption of Shawn Ansley KIDD (1976)

According to a legal notice, in May 1976 Nelson Lee Baxter filed a petition in the Hendricks County Superior Court (case # A 76-22) to adopt Shawn Ansley Kidd, a minor. His biological father, Gary H. Kidd, was listed as having abandoned and deserted him, that he could not be found. The case was scheduled to be heard 30 days after publication of the legal notice.
