As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Order Book 128 (December 1982 - January 1984), in April 1983, Kathryn E. Smalley petitioned the court (case # C 1 83-21) on behalf of her minor son, David Michael Sutton, to change his name to David Michael Smalley. The petition was granted.
