source: The Republican (Danville, Indiana) - issue of Thursday, December 3, 1959 - page 8:

On Wednesday, December 2, 1959, Galyan's Shady Acres Market Center held their grand opening on US 40 in Plainfield. Their full-page ad described themselves as "The Store of Tomorrow" and "A Dream Palace of The Finest." They also opened a Trading Post at the Plainfield location, which sold outdoor sporting equipment.

In 2004 Galyan's was purchased by Dick's Sporting Goods and the Plainfield location closed.
