Hendricks County estate index updated for 1952

An index of the Hendricks County estate cases that had legal notices published in Hendricks County newspapers has been updated to include notices from the Plainfield Messenger for 1952. This index is in the probate records section of the Hendricks County GenWeb site.

This index now includes these Hendricks County newspapers:
  • Coatesville Herald - 1945 through 1961 (the newspaper stopped being published in 1961)
  • Danville Gazette - 1945 through 1985
  • The Republican (Danville) - 1945 through 1985
  • The Friday Caller (Plainfield) - 1945 through 1956 (the newspaper stopped being published in 1956)
  • Plainfield Messenger - 1945 through 1952
This index currently covers 1945-1985; more newspapers and more years will be added later.

This may not be a comprehensive list of all of the Hendricks County estate cases for this time period; legal notices could be filed in any newspaper in the county.

44 Hendricks County probate packets from 1850-1912 digitized

A 1908 petition for the adoption of Beulah A. Baker
The Indiana Genealogical Society's website recently added 44 digitized probate packets for Hendricks County for free viewing.

This batch of probate packets spans 1850 through 1912 (as well as one stray packet from 1923). They were digitized by volunteers at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne.

Banks in Danville and Coatesville to merge (1985)

According to a newspaper article, in June 1985 First National Bank of Coatesville (which was created in 1906) and The Danville State Bank (which was chartered in 1904) announced plans to merge. Douglas K. Phillips, acting president of First National Bank of Coatesville, and Harold E. Hiser, the president of The Danville State Bank, announced the merger plans. The boards of First National Bank of Coatesville (chaired by Dr. John Ellett, Jr.) and the Danville State Bank (chaired by Otto N. Frenzel, III) voted unanimously in favor of the merger. Combined the 2 banks had 7 locations in Hendricks County.

According to an October 10, 1985 newspaper article, this merger became effective on October 1, 1985. The merged bank was to be known as Mid State Bank of Hendricks County.

Bartlett Chapel Church in Danville celebrates 125th anniversary (1985)

According to a newspaper article, in July 1985 Bartlett Chapel Church in Danville was celebrating its 125th anniversary. It began in 1860 as a small group; in 1985 it was a large church on Old US 36, on the dividing line between Danville and Avon. Its pastor in 1985 was Rev. Kenneth Vetter.

An index of the landowners in Middle Township in 1932 has been added to the Land Records section of the Hendricks County GenWeb site. This index was compiled from the Hendricks County Assessor's collection of plat books and lists the Congressional Township, Range and Section that the land was located in.

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of the plat books for scattered years between 1852 and 1940.
