Adoption of Elspeth May SMITH & Beverly Ann SMITH (1936)

According to a Hendricks County Probate Court docket sheet, in August 1936 a petition was filed (case #6249) to adopt Elspeth May Smith and Beverly Ann Smith by their stepfather. Their mother, Elspeth J. Manning Simmons, filed her written consent, and their father, Ivor L. Smith, was said to have deserted them and was not a resident of Indiana. The petition was granted, and their names were changed to Elspeth May Simmons and Beverly Ann Simmons.
