Urban HEDGE dies in Indianapolis (1929)

DEATH OF URBAN HEDGE
Urban Hedge, a former citizen of North Salem, passed away in Indianapolis, Friday evening, after an illness of seven weeks, from a complication of diseases. Funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, and interment was in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Hedge was the youngest of two sons of James Carr and Emma Gill Hedge. He was born near North Salem, November 2, 1889. His age at the time of his death was 39 years, 7 months and 12 days. About 1905 he with his parents moved to Lebanon, where on January 28, 1907, he was united in marriage to Olive Mount, who survives him. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Lucille Hiser, Marie, Frances and Ethel Mae. The father, James Carr, of Lebanon, a brother, Allen, of Crawfordsville, and two aunts also survive.

Otha HEDGE pleads guilty to wife desertion (1906)

As mentioned in Hendricks County Circuit Court Civil Order Book Volume 51 (March 1906 - February 1907), in October 1906 Otha Allen Hedge pled guilty to the crime of wife desertion (case #4555). He was given a $25 fine. Allen Weddle and James C. Hedge were the sureties on his bail.

Adoption of Vernie May HEDGE (1895)

According to Hendricks County probate records, on 10 January 1895 Mattison Sparger and Maggie M. Sparger submitted a petition to adopt Vernie May Hedge, who was born 1 February 1891, the daughter of Florence A. Hedge. The petition noted that the couple were childless and included an affidavit from Florence A. Hedge. In consenting to the adoption, Florence A. Hedge admitted that she had never been married and that Vernie May Hedge was illegitimate.

Norma Ella (BURK) ZACHARY Dies in North Salem (1942)

Mrs. Norma Ella Zachary, resident of North Salem for the past 32 years, died at her home at 1 o'clock Sun. afternoon after an illness of about 3 years. She had been bedfast for the past 6 months. Mrs. Zachary was born at Jamestown Oct 28, 1880, the daughter of James W. and Mary Jane (Goodwin) Burk. She is survived by her husband, Ott Zachary, two children, Mrs. Lillian May Ferguson and Morris Zachary, both of Indianapolis; 3 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Flora North, Ohio; Mrs. Dora Hedge, Indianapolis; Mrs. Mary Bundy, Ladoga; and one brother, Jack Burk, of New Ross. Several nieces & nephews and other relatives live in Crawfordsville. The funeral will be held at 3:30 o'clock Tues. afternoon, Aug. 4, from the Earl Cox Funeral Home, North Salem.
