Adoption of Scott Ashley HELTON (1975)

According to a legal notice, in August 1975 there was a petition filed by Glenn W. Billeter in the Hendricks County Superior Court (case # A 75-34) to adopt Scott Ashley Helton, a minor. His biological father was listed as John Dickinson, whose whereabouts were unknown and who was alleged to have abandoned and deserted him. The case was scheduled to be heard in court 30 days after the legal notice had been published.

Indiana National Guard opens armory in Danville (1954)

According to a November 11, 1954 newspaper article, the armory was formally dedicated on November 9, 1954. The cost of the armory was $190,000. Construction had been delayed because of a strike by the cement workers.

According to a September 30, 1954 newspaper article, the armory's governing board was to consist of Captain Fred Bohm (Indianapolis), Lieutenant Richard Helton (Danville) and Ed Stevenson (Danville).

According to a May 4, 1950 newspaper article, the Hendricks County Commissioners signed a deed to donate 4 acres from part of the county home's grounds to the Indiana National Guard so that they could open an Armory.

According to a April 2, 1953 article, Lieutenant Colonel Charles W. Sampson, Facilities Officer for the Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard, placed the corner stakes for the building at the construction site in March 1953.

NOTE: The Armory is still at the same site today - its address is 1245 East Main Street (aka Old US 36), and it is across the street from the hospital (Hendricks Regional Health).

Election results for town of Brownsburg (1870)

According to an entry in Hendricks County Circuit Court Book volume 11 (which covers November 1869 to May 1871), on November 5, 1870, the town of Brownsburg held its election. The following residents were elected:

Cecil HELTON Files For Divorce (1934)

SEEKS DIVORCE
Cecil Helton filed suit for a divorce from Marie New Helton, last Friday, in the local circuit court. The couple was married last March and after ten months of married life separated on December 27. The plaintiff alleges cruel and inhuman treatment as the grounds for divorce.

OBITUARY: John "Hull" Helton (1932)

“Hull” Helton Killed When Reaches For Dollar
John Helton, familiarly known in Danville as “Hull,” was buried in the South cemetery, Sunday.

Helton was killed near the Kingan packing plant in Indianapolis when he was struck by an engine on the Pennsylvania right-of-way, Thursday. He was gathering coal along the right-of-way when an employee of Kingan & Co. observed his poverty stricken condition and threw a dollar to him. The dollar rolled near the rails and unaware of an approaching train, Helton tried to retrieve it and was struck.

Friends in Indianapolis arranged for his burial here in the family lot. Before the time of paved streets around the square in Danville “Hull” was a familiar character here when he drove the sprinkling wagon.
