The Danville library's Genealogy Nuts genealogy group will meet on Monday, July 8 at 1 pm in the library's program room on the ground floor. Meredith Thompson will give a presentation on "Divorce: A 19th Century Epidemic". The presentation will give an introduction to American divorce records and some of the online resources available for locating a divorce case. It will touch on the history of divorce in the United States and identify areas that became known as “divorce mills” because of their willingness to grant quick divorces – including Indianapolis.

Brownsburg genealogy group to discuss divorce records
The Brownsburg Branches genealogy group will meet on Tuesday, May 2 from 1 to 3 pm at the Brownsburg Public Library. The meeting will be held in Meeting Room E. Meredith Thompson from the Hendricks County GenWeb Project and the Indiana Genealogical Society will present a program on divorce records.

Beverly Ann HODGINS seeks annulment (1955)

In February 1955 Beverly Ann Hodgins filed suit for an annulment from James T. Tague, alleging that in September 1954 Tague had gotten her to go with him to Texas and they had filed a false marriage application while there. Hodgins was represented by Walter Hodgins in the case because she was a minor under the age of 21.

James H. SMITH sued for divorce from Philadelphia (1961)

According to a June 1961 legal notice, James H. Smith was being sued by Angela Smith for divorce in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (case #1433). His current whereabouts were unknown, but his last known residence was Rural Route 2, Box 178, Danville, Indiana. The grounds for the divorce petition was desertion. The case was scheduled to be heard by the appointed Master of the Court, Max E. Cohen, on July 6, 1961.

Plainfield genealogy group to discuss divorce records
The Family History Hounds genealogy group will meet on Thursday, May 5 from 1 to 3 pm at the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library. The meeting will be held upstairs in the library's meeting rooms. Meredith Thompson will give a presentation on divorce records, including where they can be found and how you can use them in your genealogy research.

Marie Townsend wants a divorce from Robert J. Townsend, alleging cruel and inhuman treatment in that he was cross and ill-natured, had an uncontrollable temper and continually found fault with every act of plaintiff and would often curse her and strike her. They separated Oct. 22, 1919 and she sought employment for her own support. Plaintiff asks that her maiden name be restored. Parties were married August 29, 1914.
