Verne C. Walton Sr., 70, a native of North Salem, died at 11:25 a.m. Friday in his home here after an illness of three weeks. He was born Oct. 26, 1892, near North Salem and his parents were John Gavin and Cora Parker Walton. On Dec. 20, 1916, her married Dorothy Faye Parker in North Salem. He was a member of the North Salem Methodist Church and worked as a contractor and carpenter all of his life. he attended North Salem schools. Survivors include the widow; four sons, John of Lapel, William and Verne Jr. of North Salem and Charles of Greenfield; two daughters, Mrs. Joann McClain of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and Mrs. Colinette Richardson of Greenfield; three sisters, Mrs. Don Foster of Dallas, Tex., Mrs. Kenneth Baler of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Lee Richards of Wilton, Conn., and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Porter Funeral Home in North Salem with Rev. Delmar Smith officiating. Burial was in North Salem Cemetery.
