The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library has digitized their collection of Plainfield High School yearbooks for 1951 through 1989. The yearbooks are in PDF format and are available via the Genealogy section of their website.

The yearbooks were digitized by Oklahoma Correctional Industries.

List of Indiana Boys' School inmates paroled 1880-1882 added

An index of the inmates at the Indiana Boys' School that were paroled from 1880 to 1882 has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. This index was compiled from the school's 1882 annual report.

The Indiana Boys' School was a state correctional institution established in Plainfield in 1867 to reform male juvenile offenders through education and job training. The records of the institution are held by the Indiana State Archives - see their database of inmates from 1867 through 1937.

Guilford Township Criminal Case Index 1901-1910 Added

An index of a criminal docket book 1901-1910 for a Guilford Township Justice of the Peace has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. Indiana law gave justices of the peace the jurisdiction to settle certain court cases in their respective townships, including misdemeanor criminal cases.

Clarence JOHNSON of Guilford Township Seeks Divorce (1933)

source: The Republican (Danville, Indiana) - issue of Thursday, April 20, 1933 - page 1, column 3:

SEEKS DIVORCE
Clarence Johnson filed suit for a divorce from his wife, Tressia Johnson, Friday, in the local circuit court. The plaintiff alleges cruel and inhuman treatment in that the defendant continually nagged and criticized him. The Johnsons were married in April, 1922, and separated April 7, 1933. The plaintiff is a farmer living in Guilford Township.

These special censuses were taken of white males and colored males over the age of 21. The censuses only asked for the male's first and last name and their age.

Entries from the Indiana Boys' School enumeration have been added to the database Every-Name Index of 1940 Census for Hendricks County, Indiana, which is on the Hendricks County GenWeb site. The Indiana Boys' School was started in Plainfield in 1867 to reform male juvenile offenders through education. Originally known as the "House of Refuge for Juvenile Offenders," its name was later changed to the Indiana Reform School for Boys and finally the Indiana Boys' School. Judges from courts across Indiana could commit boys to the school if they had been charged with a crime or with being delinquent.

This database is not complete - more entries will be added. When finished, the database will include every person listed in the 1940 Hendricks County census.

Indiana State Archives Adds Indiana Boys' School Database

The Indiana State Archives has added an index of inmates at the Indiana Boys' School to its online collection. The Indiana Boys' School was started in Plainfield in 1867 to reform male juvenile offenders through education. Originally known as the "House of Refuge for Juvenile Offenders," its name was later changed to the Indiana Reform School for Boys and finally the Indiana Boys' School. Judges from courts across Indiana could commit boys to the school if they had been charged with a crime or with being delinquent.

The Indiana State Archives' index includes 12,700 boys who were committed to the Indiana Boys' School from 1867 to 1937 (for confidentiality reasons, boys who were committed after 1937 are not online). Additional information on the inmates is available by contacting the Indiana State Archives or visiting their facility in person.

Guilford Township Justice of the Peace election (1845)

We the undersigned, Inspector and Judges of an Election held in Plainfield in Guilford Township Hendricks County Indiana on Monday the 7th day of April 1845 do certify that Eli McCaslin received sixty two votes and John C. Johnson received sixty (60) votes [and] were duly elected Constable in and for said Township for the ensuing year, and for the office of Justice of the Peace John Reagan received sixty three (63) votes John Lorrain received one vote and were duly elected.
