According to a newspaper article, in June 1962 Kroger began construction on a new store on the south side of US 36, across from the Danville Park. The contract was for $87,900 and the new store was to be over 10,000 square feet, with a music system and complete sprinkler system.
According to a October 4, 1962 newspaper article, the new store held its grand opening that week. Its address was 555 East Main Street.
NOTE: This store replaced the Kroger that was on the west side of the courthouse square (South Jefferson Street). The Danville State Bank bought the South Jefferson Street property from Kroger.
