List of Liberty Township landowners in 1932 added

An index of the landowners in Liberty Township in 1932 has been added to the Hendricks County GenWeb site. This index was compiled from the Hendricks County Assessor's collection of plat books and lists the Congressional Township, Range and Section that the land was located in.

The Hendricks County Government's Archive has digital files of the plat books for scattered years between 1852 and 1940.

Adoption of Jeffrey Allan ADCOCK (1966)

According to a legal notice, in August 1966, John Henry Ellis was petitioning the Hendricks County Superior Court (case # A 66-19) to adopt Jeffrey Allan Adcock, a minor. His biological mother was Shirley Jean Ellis; his biological father, Phillip Gaylord Adcock, was listed as whereabouts unknown. The petition was to be heard in court on September 26, 1966.

Brownsburg genealogy group to discuss newspaper research

The Brownsburg Branches genealogy group will meet on Tuesday, August 2 from 1 to 3 pm at the Brownsburg Public Library. The meeting will be held in the library's computer lab. Leigh Ann Johnson from the Indiana State Library will explain how to use newspapers - obituaries, death notices and miscellaneous articles - to more effectively research your family history.

An index of the Hendricks County estate cases that had legal notices published in the Danville newspapers Danville Gazette and The Republican for the years 1957 through 1959 has been added to the probate records section of the Hendricks County GenWeb site.

This index of estate cases now covers 1945-1959; more years will be added later.

This may not be a comprehensive list of all the Hendricks County estate cases for this time period; legal notices could be filed in any newspaper in the county.

According to a legal notice, in June 1966, Melody Ann McCauley was petitioning the Hendricks County Superior Court (case # S 66-103) to change her name to Melody Ann Ritchie. Because she was under 21, the petition was filed by Donald L. Ritchie, Sr. The petition was to be heard in court on July 5, 1966.








Adoption of Florence Elizabeth RICE and Ellen Isabel RICE (1962)

According to a legal notice, in April 1959, Ernest Lawrence Grosdidier, Jr. was petitioning the Hendricks County Circuit Court to change his name to Ernest Lawrence Grier. His wife, Nancy Jean Grosdidier, also filed a petition to change her name to Nancy Jean Grier, and he filed a petition on behalf of his daughter, Julie Anne Grosdidier, to change her name to Julie Anne Grier. These petitions were to be heard in court on June 20, 1959.

Hendricks County 4-H Fair adds Queen Contest (1960)

According to a newspaper article, in January 1960, the board of the Hendricks County 4-H Fair decided to add a new event, a Queen Contest, to that year's fair, which was to be held August 1-6, 1960.

According to an August 4, 1960 article, 16-year-old Suzanna Glover of Danville won the contest and was named the first "Miss Hendricks County." The article included her weight (115 pounds), height (5 foot 4 inches) and measurements (35-24-25).
